The Global Demand for Biofuel
International Agriculture workshop for high school educators
June 19—21, 2008

Biofuels have been embraced globally as renewable sources for energy, but despite the enthusiasm there remain many questions and some concerns.
Participants will learn about bioenergy developments nationally and internationally, international agricultural crop production and second generation bi-products that can be used for biofuels, and the environmental, economic, and societal impacts of bioenergy.
This 2 ½ day workshop for agriculture educators and social science and science teachers, will cover the latest science, include visits to biofuel labs and test-crop sites, and an opportunity develop lesson plans.
Credit : Participating teachers will receive CPDUs or CEUs. Graduate credit is available through the University of Illinois, College of ACES. Tuition waivers are not available for this course. Cost per credit hour is $320.
Housing : Single room lodging will be provided at Hendrick House, a private dorm.
Registration : Fee of $25 to cover field trips and miscellaneous expenses. Housing and some meals are covered. Space is limited. Deadline for early applications and travel grants is April 30, 2008.

2008 Curriculum Development Workshop:
Interactive Teaching Methods on the European Union For K-16 Educators
A Cultural Journey Through the European Union
Tuesday, July 8 - Friday, July 11, 2008

Objectives: Organized by the University of Illinois European Union Center, this intensive curriculum workshop will address more effective ways of incorporating European Union culture into your foreign language, history, geography, language arts, and social studies classes. The workshop will provide teachers with materials and resources on the European Union as well as provide opportunities to create new curricula. While all K-16 teachers are welcome, the curriculum materials are geared mainly towards middle, high
school and community college education. Tentative Daily Themes: Is there a "culture" of the European Union? Will political culture emerge? How do literature, film and media reflect and represent European Union culture? Web resources and daily curriculum planning time will also be a part of this workshop. Extra Session Opportunity: Join us early on Tuesday afternoon, July 8 for a special session on the Europe In Transition curriculum unit. This unit was put together by the Southern Center for International Studies and the World Affairs Council of America. A trained teacher will present this unit and instruct you on how to utilize it in your classrooms. Everyone that attends this session will receive a free set of the curriculum unit which consists of a teachers guide/workbook and a DVD. (additional CPDU's or CEU's will be available for attendance to this session).
Credit: Participating teachers will receive 20-25 CPDUs for IL teachers or 2.0 University of Illinois CEUs (20-25 contact hours) for non-IL teachers. University of Illinois graduate credit may be available.
Cost: The registration fee is $100. Housing, most meals, and materials including CD Rom of presentations/handouts will be provided.
Housing: Housing will be provided at the Hendrick House, a private dorm on campus, from July 8-12, 2008.
Travel: Grants Travel grants (up to $200) are available on a first come first serve basis. Register early!
Deadline: Deadline for early applications and travel grants is April 30, 2008.
Late Registration is open until May 30, 2008.
